My name is Bente Geil and I am 42 years of age. My husband, Poul, is a vicar, and we have 3 beautiful children and a dog. I am from the southern part of Denmark, but live in Silkeborg, and sometimes I long for the smell of these southern parts, coming up to me, as I get south of Kongeåen.
When I was a child, I was every day at my grandmother’s, who was a dressmaker. I saw the ladies come and try on their dresses, that crackled, as silk taffeta does. And how many buttons I have sewn onto long lines, nobody knows.
My knitting career started when I was about 6 or 7.
I started on a lilac scarf and knitted and knitted. My mom told my, that I had to take an occasional break, otherwise my eyes would fall out. Imagine, eyes falling out, if we were knitting too much!
Phew, I got scared, but I am still knitting, sometimes too much, according to my children.
Being young, I became bitten by a mad loom and educated myself at Århus Art Academy in 1,5 year.
After some years as a social- and health assistant I had to return to needlework, as it is that, what really interests me.
In 2005, I completed my education as a needlework teacher at Skals Textile College, and I can think back on these 3 years as luxury years, where I was doing just the things, that matters the most to me. It allowed me to learn something and at the same time carry out some crazy and funny ideas.
It gives me a very special pleasure to create a unique piece of knitwear, from my own idea. It does not matter how long it takes as the process is as important to me as the finished product.
With kind regards,
Bente Geil
